SYDNEY APARTMENT AMALGAMATION

Circular Quay, Sydney, AustraliaProject completed 2023

BRIEF
The brief was to merge two small apartment into one large apartment for a retired sylish business woman.

It involed the removal of dividing walls, and clever redeisgn of spaces, including kitchen, bathrooms and bedrooms.

The pallette was to be light and airy, white and bright, classic and timeless, and not to ditract from its views of ciruclar quay and the sydney harbour bridge.

CHALLENGES
One of the main challenges was positioning wet areas in locations where drains were already present. Due to the nature of the apartment buidling, new penetrations could not be constructed.

Other challenges included dealing with service pipes from upper units in elegant ways, and postioning ceiling lines to maximise floor to ceiling heights where possible, contrained by the low floor to slab heights of the apartment complex.

SOLUTIONS
The chosen colour pallete and materials were selected to complement the views, but also not distract from them.

HIGHLIGHTS
Finding an elegant solution for containing existing dowpipees from above units through the kitchen island.  I introduced a window through the shaft where there was a gap in the service pipes.
